One of the first commercial applications of DMAP was in the production of the well known and widely available insecticide chlorpyrifos (1).

The reaction conditions for the formation of this O-P bond are given as :
DMAP (13.5 mol%), S=P(OEt)₂(Cl), [C₆H₁₃NMe₃]⁺Cl^-, NaCl, H₂O, 59 ºC, 2h, 97% Yield
